“It integrates” is a starting point, not a complete requirement. Ask what moves, in which direction, under what conditions and with whose responsibility attached.
The object
A connection can involve a document, a record, a link, a summary or a stream of data. Those are different things. A link that opens a source packet is useful, but it is not necessarily a copied packet. A summary can reduce navigation without becoming the underlying record. Specify the object you expect the receiving workflow to use.
Cast & Crew’s public pages describe connections among its timekeeping, onboarding, document and reporting products. This article offers an independent way to question those connections during evaluation. It does not claim an undocumented API, transfer schedule or universal behavior across projects.
The direction
Does information travel one way, or can changes originate on either side? If a field appears in two places, which one is the intended source for a correction? The question prevents a common planning error: assuming that a visible value can be edited wherever it is displayed.
A fictional example makes the issue clear. A manager sees an offer-related reference while reviewing a timecard. That reference may help the review, but it does not establish that the manager should change the offer from the timecard context. The authorized workflow and product documentation determine the actual action.
The trigger and timing
Ask what event causes the handoff. Is it an explicit submission, an approval, a scheduled process or another condition? Then ask how a recipient can tell whether the expected update has arrived. Do not use “real time” casually when the relevant process has not been specified.
Timing matters because a team may be comparing a current source with an earlier output. Before diagnosing a mismatch, identify the time basis of each item. A clear evaluation note records the promised behavior and any stated limits without inventing an operational guarantee.
The scope
Which project, product, role and record population are included? A connection that works for a demonstrated project does not prove that it automatically spans an entire slate. Ask whether configuration, eligibility or product access changes the scope. Keep country-specific and provider-specific questions visible rather than hiding them in a generic “global” requirement.
The exception
What happens if a required item is missing, rejected or later corrected? A good demonstration includes an ordinary failure path and explains how an authorized person recognizes it. The aim is not to seek a system with no exceptions. It is to understand how exceptions remain visible and owned.
Write down the recovery question without presuming its answer: “If the expected document is unavailable, which team investigates first, and what evidence should be supplied?” That is more actionable than “the integration should always work.” Never include credentials or private payroll documents in an informal evaluation note.
The owner
Every handoff needs a business owner and a technical or support route. They may not be the same person. The production should know who decides what the result ought to be, while the provider explains the supported mechanism. A software connection cannot settle an unresolved responsibility dispute by itself.
Use the six questions as an agenda beside the software map. For document-specific examples, read document exchange fit. The resulting notes should be short enough to use in a meeting and precise enough to reveal what still needs confirmation.
